The gap between the sink and countertop not only ruins the furnished look but also damages the surrounding cabinets due to the water leakage from a tinny gap between the under-mount sink and the countertop.
Like many other Homeowners, if you are also facing this problem then, we will guide you on how to fix gap between sink and countertop easily.
Applying caulk is the easiest way to fix the gap between the sink and countertop. Take a caulk gun and apply the caulk between the sink and countertop to fix this gap. Silicone caulk is highly resistant to water, making it suitable for use in wet environments like sinks or bathrooms.
5 Methods to Fix Gap between Sink and Countertop
Normally, the gap between the sink and countertop occurs due to poor installation of either your sink or countertop. The gap varies between 1 inch, which is why the methods to fix this gap also vary.
Keeping this in mind, I have explained five effective methods below to fix this gap. You can choose one of them according to the gap width between the sink and countertop.
By Using Sealant Caulk
Sealant caulk is made of waterproof materials, suitable for use in wet environments like sinks or bathrooms. It is easily available and a less expensive way to fix plumbing gaps. Caulk is best to fix gaps of less than a quarter of an inch.
Dry Area: Before applying sealant caulk, make sure the area is dry and clean. If there is any old caulk, first remove it by gently scraping a putty knife.
Placing tape: To prevent the caulk from sprinkling all over the place, apply masking tape on either side of the gap.
Prepare the Caulk Gun: Load the caulk into a caulk gun and cut the tip of the caulk tube at a 45-degree angle to allow for a smooth application.
Apply the Caulk: Apply sealant caulk between the masking tape and smooth it with the help of a putty knife or finger, before drying. It will help to penetrate the caulk inside the gap.
Let it Dry: Allow the caulk to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions before using the sink.
By Using Caulk Strips
Caulk strips are waterproof and suitable for applying on wet area gaps that are wide up to half an inch. Purchase a wide caulk strip if the gap is wider than a half inch.
Clean the gap to remove any dust or debris from inside the gap. If there is any old caulk, remove it before applying strips. A clean area will provide good adhesion to the caulk strip.
Measure the length along the gap between the sink and countertop. Cut the caulk strip according to the measurements. For the corner, cut the strips at 45 degrees for the perfect joint.
Apply the caulk strips along the gap between the sink and countertop after peeling off. For the corner joint, join both 45-degree strips with each other and press firmly but carefully.
If needed, press the caulk strips firmly by using a putty knife to cover the opening. By doing this, the caulk strip will be set between the undermount sink and countertop to seal this gap.

By Using Epoxy
If you have a gap between the sink and countertop is a quarter-inch, you can seal it by filling epoxy inside the gap. Follow the steps below to do well:
Clean the gap to remove any dust, debris, and old caulk. It is necessary for the perfect adhesion of the epoxy between the sink and countertop.
Choose the epoxy that is highly resistant to the water. I suggest applying gorilla epoxy to get perfect results. It is highly resistant to the water.
Apply epoxy inside the gap by using a putty knife. Make sure the epoxy is penetrated inside the gap to seal it properly. Smooth the epoxy before drying by using a putty knife.
Let it set for a time according to the guide of the product that you used. Don’t use the sink during this step because the water can penetrate inside the epoxy and it may become less effective to fix this gap.
Sand the surface by using 120-grit sandpaper, after the epoxy has completely dried. It will smoothen the surface. Do it with extreme care and use sandpaper that can’t put scratches on your countertop or the under-mount sink.
By Using Rubber Seals
If the gap between the undermount sink and countertop is more than a half inch, you can fix this gap by using a rubber seal. These seals come in different sizes and you can also cut them according to the size of your sink.
Choose a rubber seal that sets perfectly with your sink. Measure the sink, purchase a thick rubber seal, and cut it according to these measurements. You can also use a Sealing foam strip to seal this gap.
Remove the sink to place rubber seals between the undermount sink and the countertop. Do it with extreme to avoid any damage to the sink or countertop.
Place the rubber seal between the under-mount sink and the countertop to seal this gap. Place it in such a way that it is set completely between the top of the countertop and beneath the edges of the sink. It will help to seal leakage from the gap.
Reinstall the sink once the rubber seal is set into place. Tight the sink completely to enclose the gap between the sink and countertop as much as possible. In this way, you can properly seal the gap if there is a water leakage through this gap.
Reinstall the Countertop and Sink
Unfortunately, if you have a gap between the sink and countertop that is wider than 1 inch, you have to reinstall the sink and countertop. If your countertop is wooden or stainless steel, then you can do it easily because they are easy to remove and reinstall.
However, if your countertop is a marble or granite you will hesitate to do this because it is a costly process to reinstall these types of countertops. It is a cost-effective method but durable.
If you are not a professional carpenter then get the help of a professional to avoid any damage to the sink or countertop. It is a cost-effective way but it will save you time that you may burn in sealing the wide gap again and again.
